Healthy Balance

You want to limit calories, fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, or sugar, but you don’t want to sacrifice taste. As part of our ongoing commitment to wellness, Corporate Chefs offers Healthy Balance meals to help you to eat better when you’re away from home.  The Healthy Balance Meals Program is one of many Corporate Chefs' wellness initiatives.

The Healthy Balance Meals Program, designed by our registered dietitian, Elizabeth Ward, MS, RD, is regularly updated to reflect the latest healthy eating recommendations from organizations such as the American Heart Association, and the U.S. government. Each Healthy Balance Meal offers 500 or less calories, 12 grams of total fat, or less; no added trans fat or added sugar; 75 milligrams of cholesterol, or less; and 600 milligrams of sodium, or less.

Healthy Balance meals make sense for everyone – not just people who want to limit calories, fat, cholesterol, sodium, and sugar because of dietary restrictions.   Eating the Healthy Balance way helps you to come closer to an eating plan that may increase your energy, and promote wellness.

Elizabeth M. Ward, M.S., R.D., is a registered dietitian, author, and nutrition consultant. She has worked with Corporate Chefs, Inc. for nearly 20 years, creating healthy meals programs, such as Healthy Balance, writing the Healthy Balance newsletter, providing nutrition analysis for food served in Corporate Chefs accounts, and delivering onsite nutrition seminars for employees served by the company.

Ward is the author of several books, including The Pocket Idiot’s Guide to the New Food Pyramids, and is writing a book about the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010, to be published in 2011.  She writes regularly for WebMD.com and Men’s Fitness, USATODAY.com, and blogs about healthy eating for mom and her family at www.expectthebestpregnancy.com.

Ward is a recognized nutrition authority who is often interviewed by the media. She has been a guest on The Today Show and appears regularly on Fox 25’s Morning News as a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association for 10 years, Ward was featured in nearly 1,000 print and broadcast interviews, including CNN, U.S. News & World Report, The New York Times, and The Boston Globe.

Ward has been a speaker at more than 100 professional meetings, including The American Dietetic Association,The Massachusetts Dietetic Association, The Florida Dietetic Association, The National Association of Catering Executives, The Pennsylvania School Food Service Association, and the International Congress of Dietetics in Paris.  Ward created and conducted corporate nutrition education programs for five years at Medical Care Affiliates in Boston, where she also counseled people about healthy eating. She has worked at the Joslin Diabetes Center and the American Heart Association, and for seven years counseled children and adults at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Boston. Ward completed her undergraduate degree in human nutrition at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; a one-year dietetic internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and a masters degree in Mass Communication at Boston University.  She is the recipient of the 125 Alumni to Watch Award from the University of Massachusetts, and was named Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year by the Massachusetts Dietetic Association. Ward lives in Massachusetts with her husband and three daughters.
